In Cuba all the payments are carried out in Convertible
Cuban Pesos (CUC). A Convertible Cuban Weight is equal to an
American dollar.
With this currency all the services and available products can
be obtained in the country.
The Convertible Pesos can be acquired with other freely convertible
currencies: Canadian dollars, Eurus, Sterling Libras and Swiss
Francs and the rate of change of these currencies notices taking
like reference the exchange rate of the international market.
Convertible Pesos can also be acquired with North American dollars,
but in this case an obligation of 10% is imposed. For that reason
if it travels to the island with cash it is convenient that he/she
brings Canadian dollars, Eurus, sterling pounds or Swiss francs.
The change of foreign currencies for convertible pesos is carried
out in airports, banks, hotels, houses of change (CADECA) and
big stores and the conversion is carried out on the base that
a Convertible Cuban Weight is equal to an American dollar.
He/she stays the acceptance of Eurus in the tourist poles: Shipyard,
Gardens of the King, North of Holguín, beach Santa Lucía
in Camagüey, beach Covarrubias in The Tunas and Long Key
of the South.
They are also accepted the cards of Exact credit, Transcard,
Approves, International MasterCard, Access, Bancomer International
Eurocard, Banamex, Dinners Club International, JCB and Identification
card, whenever they have not been emitted by North American banks
or its branches and means of payment of national use emitted
by the International Financial Bank (cards BFI) and for the banks
of Credit and Trade, Subway, Popular of Saving and BICSA (cards
RED).
